Fraud Prevention

At ukcctv.co.uk, we take online security seriously. We have therefore implemented the following security features to ensure that your online purchase is as safe and secure as possible.

Steps we have taken include:

SSL

Our secure-server software encrypts all your personal information including credit or debit card number and name and address. Your transaction will take place within a secure payment system.


We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology provided by Thawte, a well know SSL certificate provider owned by Verisign. SSL is supported by most Internet browsers. Your personal and card details are protected using 128-bit encryption protection when transmitted over the Internet, providing your Internet browser supports 128-bit encryption.


128-bit encryption is supported by Internet Explorer (version IE5) and above and Netscape (version 4.8) and above. Lower level browsers will still provide a degree of encryption, but this will be at a lower level.


Website security audits

ukcctv.co.uk uses the Hackersafe security programme, ‘Scanalert'™, to independently verify the security of our web server. Scanalert's certification is achieved by passing rigorous daily network security audits undertaken independently by Scanalert.



Scanalert will remove their certification logo from our website as soon as ukcctv.co.uk's current security status fails to meet the highest published government standards. This could be on any given day, as audits are conducted daily.

Bank Indemnity

If your card is used fraudulently or stolen, you are fully protected by the UK Banking Code. The Code is a voluntary system that sets out standards for good banking practice, including limiting liability for cardholders that are victims of fraud. The Code states that if somebody else uses your card before you tell your card issuer it has been lost or stolen, the most you will have to pay is £50. In practice the bank or building society will usually refund the full amount lost.

Similarly, if your card is used fraudulently, but you still have the card in your possession, you will not be liable to pay for any part of the losses. You would probably still have your card in your possession if you are a victim of card-not-present fraud, e.g. when you are using your credit card over the Internet.

General precautions

Securing your cards, chequebooks and PINs is essential to help prevent fraud and protect your accounts. If you detect any unrecognised transactions on your statement, or if your card is lost, report it to your card issuer immediately.

To help guard yourself from becoming a victim of card fraud, we recommend you follow the following general guidelines:



  • Protect your card
  • Keep it in your sight when making a transaction.
  • Carefully dispose of receipts from card transactions and other personal data (shred them if possible to prevent people from acquiring them from your bins)
  • Examine your statements carefully. If you find any unknown transactions, contact your card issuer immediately.
  • Never write down your PIN and never divulge it to anyone, even if they claim to be from your card issuer or the police.
  • When using a cash machine, be careful of anyone who might be trying to watch you enter your PIN.
